The Shadow Percussion Project
April 1st, 2006via Music Thing:
The after-school percussion group at Minnetonka High School, Minneapolis, rehearsed for months and can now play two tracks from DJ Shadow’s ‘Endtroducing’ album. The music was arranged by 25 year-old geographer/law student/vibraslap enthusiast Brian Udelhofen, who teaches the group. The Shadow Percussion Project page links to this amazing video [65mb WMV] of the group’s live performance in May 2005.
People ‘in the know’ may have already seen this but I couldn’t help passing it on to people who might have missed it, since I just saw this now.
sCrAmBlEd? HaCkZ!
April 1st, 2006via hack a day:
sCrAmBlEd? HaCkZ! by Sven König is an amazing piece of video remixing software. It’s built using C++, Python and PureData. It takes music videos, chops them up by beats and indexes the samples by sound signature in a database. You then beatbox into a microphone to describe the music you want to hear. The software builds the music you want out of the sample database. Sven has put together an excellent video that describes the program and has example performances. It’s a must watch. Get it either directly from his site or watch it on YouTube.
So awsome, can’t wait to till he gets around to releasing it. If you don’t understand from reading the blurb, but are still interested, definately check out the video.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
March 27th, 2006Since I probably won’t get around to writing a full review myself I thought I’d link to a good one and just say that I love this game! I’ve played about 6 hours so far, haven’t played in the last few days but I know I’ll go back to it, pacing myself and playing other stuff at the same time.
Hrm, no real good summary paragraphs in this review to quote here so just go read the review.
The Family Man
March 26th, 2006As you’ll probably hear me say over and over I get really angry at how much american television sucks when I watch quality drama/comedy/sci-fi from the BBC.
Latest example:
The Family Man takes an engaging and thought-provoking look at the business of making babies in the 21st Century - a business which can make dreams come true.
It centres on the emotionally-charged stories of four couples who have all turned to Patrick for help, and his attempts to realise their dreams.
Over the years, passionate and principled Patrick has helped hundreds of couples to have babies of their own. In a sea of developing technologies and shifting ethical opinion, he believes that each couple’s case deserves to be judged individually and that blanket rules should not apply. It’s a belief which puts him at odds with many of his colleagues.
Girly Phone Voices: A Doctoral Dissertation
March 26th, 2006If you are a male aged 18 - 150, you are already familiar with “Girly Phone Voices.” Whether or not you are consciously aware of this phenomenon is an entirely different issue. Specifically, a “Girly Phone Voice” is the voice that a man uses on the phone when he’s speaking to a female that he deems attractive. It is a distinct affectation, cadence, pitch, and frequency that is more unique than many accents, according to scientists at a prestigious university. Basically, he speaks like a little girl four teas into a party with her favorite barbies.

Do girls know about this? Or do they just think that’s how guys naturally sound on the phone?
Welcome to My New Blog
March 21st, 2006It’s been a while since I’ve done this but I’ve done it before, twice (actually three times if you count a livejournal with about four posts). You can browse my old inactive blogs:
Both are interesting reads if you want to take a quick trip back through time in blogging history, to see what things were new and interesting back then.
This new blog will be smilarly styled to the old ones in that I’ll be posting my random thoughts on whatever interests me in computers, blogging, music, politics, etc.
